Soft Beds and Good Eats

February 18, 2015
Dear Diary,
The hounds here tell me retirement is not a new track, they said its what life is without a track. No track? So what do we do? They said we sleep and eat and 'play'.  They said play is when you chew on 'toys' and toss them around and stuff. These are some strange hounds.... but they were right about the beds so I guess I'll give it a go. The people here are very nice, they rub my ears and it feels really good. I think I might like that as much as these beds they have all over this place! The man here is tall and I thought he was kind of scary at first. The boy hound says that's his person and he's nothing to be scared of. I will approach this with caution. He did give me some really yummy food, he called it peanut butter and I think it might be the best thing I've ever tasted! He might be okay after all.
They have these beds everywhere, I love it!

The little dog says he's a beagle. Beagle must mean really short, slow hound.... but he tells the people when it's time to eat so I guess he's good to have around.

The people said they were taking me on a field trip today. I wasn't sure what that was but the other girl hound here got all excited and said she wanted to go so I figured it must not be a bad thing. They took me to the funny truck again and we went for a short ride. When we got out we went in a big place with lots of things I've never seen. They called this place a pet store and said it would be fun. I don't know about fun.... but I did get some ear rubs and that was nice. The people kept showing me toys and asking if I liked them. There were so many new sights and smells and the hounds from the house weren't there so I wasn't quite sure what to do. Several people came and petted me though, and they all said how pretty I was so I guess it wasn't too bad.

We got back in the funny truck and went back to the house. I was exhausted from all the sniffing and meeting people so I took a quick hound-nap. When I woke up I had an idea. The hounds here have been right about everything else so maybe I should give this play thing a try. I picked up one of the toys and I chewed on it a minute. Not quite like food but something about it was sort of enjoyable.... I dropped it and had the overwhelming urge to pounce on it. I don't know what came over me! I bit this toy and tossed my head letting the toy fly and then I pounced on it again! Wow! It really was fun! First beds, then peanut butter, and now toys! I really like this place!

The hounds here said this is their home and I'm only visiting. Do I have to go back to the track? No, they said I won't race anymore. They said someday soon I will meet my very own people and they will take me to my very own home where I will have my own beds and toys. Wow.... that sounds really nice. I sure hope they are right about that. And if I really do get my own person I hope they rub my ears just like the man here, he does it just right. Hey, that's another thing they were right about, that man really isn't scary at all!
